Acne and Acne Scarring

Acne often affects patients long past the initial outbreak. Long term acne can lead to scarring and other similar pockmark deformities.

Worldwide, treatment resistant acne is becoming an increasing concern for patients and dermatologist alike. At Aesthetica Cosmetic, Dr. Vasily uses a variety of lasers and light sources to treat acne. Lasers and light sources have provided a useful addition for patients who want to avoid the Accutane™ route. It must be emphasized that these lasers and light sources are best used as an adjunct therapy and not as a replacement for medications.

At Aesthetica, we offer a rational, stepwise approach to treating acne, beginning with simple topical adjunctive therapy such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels to so-called photodynamic therapy (PDT) for acne. The use of these adjunctive methods will usually allow control of acne; however, some patients will ultimately require Accutane™.

Two highly effective acne lasers are available at Aesthetica.  The Acleara™ Acne Clearing System, which utilizes suction and intense pulsed light and the Lutronic® Spectra™ peel for acne.  Both of these devices have proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of resistant acne.

The treatment of acne scarring is complex. Treatment is based on the type of scarring in each individual patient. Dr. Vasily has done a considerable amount of clinical development work on devices to treat acne scarring and has helped to set the treatment guidelines used by other physicians for these treatments. Currently, we use a variety of lasers for acne scarring, including Fractional laser resurfacing technology.
